Ah, the smell of Yuletide cookies baking in the oven. Who doesn't love The holiday season cookies and all the other prepared goodies the holidays have to offer? "Where's your cookies, Mom?," check with my boys when the special scent hits their nostrils. Oh, hmm uh sorry, that's simply my favorite candle General Mills 94 burning.
For much better or worse, you will never obtain homemade Christmas cookies or massive quantities of baked solutions at my house. I realize majority of the women feel obligated to fulfill his or her motherly duty of making a multitude of delicate rosettes, rice krispie bars, Russian sandies, chocolate covered pretzels, frosted mister cookies, etc. Slaving away in the kitchen for hours and time on the weekend or weeks time nights, spending precious grocery money on pounds of butter, large sacks of flour and sugars, mounds of chocolate chips and tons of nuts. It's a badge of honor, and with a particular sense of smugness to say you did your current Christmas baking already.
I personally listen as women whine that they have to stay up all night or spend the whole weekend preparing your receipee because they HAVE to make their Xmas cookies and treats that the families expect. And for just what exactly? Once all the baking is conducted, they give away most pastries to everyone else! Or attend a cookie exchange, or maybe serve them at a family members gathering or bring them to the office. Where is the sense in this?
God prohibit we actually eat all those really cookies because we'll get 50 lbs, raise our cholesterol to the roof along with bust a gut since we can't help ourselves. Having those wondrous sweets informs us of the sweet minutes of vanligvis med en tung utenlandsk aksent childhood when mum or grandma baked their particular specialties just for us from pure motherly love.
Very well, bah humbug, I say. I chose a long time ago to forgo the baking of fattening, unhealthy, high nutrient, fat laden Christmas goodies. Because, well . baking is stressful for me. Measuring, timing, greasing, stirring, sifting, dirtying 10 plates, 20 utensils, burning the cookies and then ending up having a kitchen from hell mainly because I'm famous for creating a wreak havoc on foodstuffs. And I hate cleaning up even more than cooking!
In all honesty, I personally envy women (and guys!) who enjoy the baking, take action patiently with their children, pass on a tradition and share his or her baking skills.
But it's simply my scene.
