Mothers across the area will be gifted with a rose bush for Mother's Day. And area back garden enthusiasts are planting fresh bushes this time of year, at the same time.
"They're really not too hard to grow once you know what you're doing," said Rich Sharpe, past president plus current member of the 3 State Rose Society.
Many new varieties require very little care, while hybrid green tea roses, the kind you see inside florists and beautiful rose gardens, may take more knowledge. If that's the case, Mr. Sharpe suggests signing up for the Rose Society. "It's merely $8 annually and is a good learning resource," he added.
For novices, here are five tips.
A person. Select a No. 1 class rose. "You may pay more for the best Cheap Uggs Canada quality, but it's more than worth it," Mr. Sharpe said. If the grade is not notable on the package, ask your current salesperson, he said. "You don't want red roses with wax on the originates."
2. Plant went up bushes in areas that receive at least four to six hours of sun per day. Non-stop sun is best.
3. In order to plant, dig a hole about 20 inches deep along with 20 inches in diameter. Roots should be evenly spread on a small pyramid of earth in the center bottom of your hole. Water one inch strong and fertilize weekly. Tend not to overwater.
4. The soil needs to be a good mix of half prime soil and half all-natural material, such as Black Yellow metal, available at Windwood Bulk in Ft Oglethorpe. "It's worth the trip," Mr. Sharpe said.
