After it tragically went up in flames in September, 2014, the Umana Yana will rise again.The first post being planted yesterday.Several posts were planted yesterday at its Main Street, Kingston location.The fire, according to reports, derived from an electrical nature and had a heartbreaking effect on Guyanese especially the Amerindian community.The first Umana Yana was constructed by a team of about 60 Wai-Wai Amerindians, one of the nine Amerindian tribes of Guyana.It was commissioned by former President Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham in 1972.Umana Yana means, “meeting place of the people”. |
