| Two separate families in the Diamond Housing Scheme on the East Bank of Demerara area were yesterday the victims of brazen mid-morning robberies that took place simultaneously.Lots 63 Second Street and 27 First Street were attacked within seconds of each other as thieves armed with guns and cutlasses entered the homes of 43-year-old Sookdeo Sancharra and 55-year-old Ingrid Smith respectfully.Sancharra, who is a manufacturer and exporter of Amerindian Craft, was in his own room at the time, when his niece, Asti Dookhait, ran in.The hysterical 25-year-old told her uncle that there were thieves in the house.Upon his own investigation, Sancharra discovered that several of his family members had been robbed of jewellery and money.Twenty-two year-old, Mark Schadde, recalled that he was out in the yard cutting wire when two men entered the premises.According to Schadde, they approached him and asked for the boss.At that time, Sancharra’s nephew, Avinash Dookhait, was standing on his verandah when he noticed the two strangers, and told them that he was the boss.The strangers inquired of some samples, and asked Dookhait to move closer to them.Dookhait, by this time already suspicious, did not move closer, and they produced a gun; Dookhait told reporters that he did not hesitate when he saw the gun and fled.“I didn’t hesitate, I jus turn round wid the same speed and I run through the house and jump over the verandah and run to my neighbour.”One of the houses that the bandits invadedThe bandits then grabbed Mark Schadde,Artemi Panarin Jersey, placed a gun to his head and ordered him up the stairs into the house.They then told him to lie facedown on the ground.Asti Dookhait said that she was in her bathroom when she heard a loud commotion in the house; which was her brother running through the house to the verandah.She then heard noises in her room, and sneaked a look from behind the curtain separating the bathroom when she noticed one of the bandits.She said the bandits that were in her room, were tumbling through her wardrobe and bags,Brad Richards Red Wings Jersey, and discussing among themselves where the money might be.Dookhait hid for several minutes in the bathroom,Deion Jones Falcons Jersey, before emerging to rush to her uncle.Kaieteur News understands that the bandits made their way through the rest of the house and robbed 30-year-old Gangdai Ramcharan and 47-year-old,Deion Sanders Falcons Jersey, Ganesh Gokarran, of cash and jewellery.While Lot 63 was being raided,Fernando Rodney Jersey, neighbours at Lot 27 were also going through a similar ordeal. Ingrid Smith was going about her business when her grandson informed her that two men were at the door.After turning around, Smith was told by the duo not to say anything. After entering the home, the bandits also told the family to lie facedown on the ground, and asked for money and jewels.Smith insisted that there was no money and jewels.“Somebody gon dead in hey,” was one of the bandits’ remarks.Smith then told the intruders to “look in duh drawer yuh gon find $70,Cheap Jerseys From China,000”. The culprits, one with a gun, searched the chest of drawers indicated, found the money, and left.Another neighbour, who asked to be anonymous, was on his own verandah during the whole ordeal. The neighbour recalled that at around 10:00 hrs a white Carina AT 212 , PLL 8090, was observed driving around the vicinity in which the robberies took place. The vehicle was fingered by several eyewitnesses, of whom either observed or were victims of the robberies, as the vehicle that transported the bandits to and from the houses.Sookdeo Sancharra told this newspaper that he believes a relative of his set the two houses up.“I swear to all God (relative) brought them” he remarked, claiming this relative to be a known culprit, explaining further to say that the relative might be wanted by the police.Kaieteur News understands, from all accounts, that there was a total of five young men involved in the two robberies; two bandits at each house and a driver. |
