| …also faces court on gun, ammo chargesHaving been charged before for buggery, murder and illegal gun and ammo possession, when he was just a teenager, Dellon Henry, a/k “Nasty Man” has found himself in trouble with the law again.Murder accused: Delon ‘Nasty Man’ HenryHenry, 25, of Lot 53 Houston Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was arrested a few days ago after police raided a house at Agricola.Yesterday, he was brought before City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore, after being charged with the murder of East Ruimveldt, footballer, Dexter Griffith.Particulars of the charge alleged that on September 29, at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he murdered Griffith.The accused, who had no legal representation, was not required to plead to this charge and was remanded to prison.Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendant of Police (ASP) Stephen Telford in relating the facts of the matter, told the court that on the day in question, around 19:30hrs, Griffith was sitting in front of his house at Genip Alleyway, East Ruimveldt.Telford added that Henry approached Griffith with a gun and shot him about the body. He said that Griffith managed to run a few feet before collapsing, while the accused made good his escape on a bicycle.Griffith was then rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was later pronounced dead.The ASP added, that days after the killing Henry was contacted by police but denied shooting Griffith. He pointed out that Henry was placed on an identification (ID) parade and was positively identified by eyewitnesses.In addition, the prosecutor told the court that the police file is incomplete and they are currently seeking further advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).In relation to the murder charge, Henry professed his innocence. He claimed that on the night of the murder he was at home. He said that while in custody the police beat him and demanded that he admit to the murder. The accused emphasized that the beatings were so severe that he lost a tooth.He added, “I was never place on no ID parade and the police (name given) promised that he would lost me away in jail.”Further,Arian Foster Dolphins Jersey, Henry explained to the Magistrate that he has been in jail since 2014. He pointed out that he was released from prison last month. “Me ain’t even know town all the years I in prison.”According to the accused, prior to his arrest the police had arrested two persons in connection with the murder, but have since released them.The accused stressed that he was denied a telephone call and clean clothing while in detention.According to reports, Griffith, 36, a popular ‘Back Circle’ footballer was shot nine times about the body by two gunmen on September 29, last. Griffith was found by his mother, Lavern Griffith, lying in a drain with gunshot wounds.In addition, Henry was also slapped with charges for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.It is alleged that on October 2, at Agricola, East Bank Demerara, Henry had a .38 revolver in his possession, when he was not the holder of a firearm licence. It was also alleged that on the same day, at Agricola, he had eight .38 rounds of ammunition in his tenure without being the holder of a firearm licence. To these two charges, he pleaded not guilty.In relation to these allegations, Henry told the court that the police never found the firearm and ammunition on him. He explained, “Them (the police) wicked to me. I never had any of these things in my possession. The police throw this gun in the gutter and tek it out back and seh I had it.”These three matters will come up again on Friday, before Magistrate Ann McLennan. |
