| The deaths of Molly Adams and her 15-year-old son, Aaron, at Moblissa, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, could have been avoided if only the police had acted promptly to arrest the suspect after he had raped the woman’s 13-year old daughter.This is the view of the woman’s aunt, Annie Garraway, who is laying the blame squarely at the feet of the ranks at the Moblissa Police Outpost. She has taken her complaints to the Office of Professional Responsibility.Garraway, in an interview with this newspaper yesterday, said that the police ranks at the Amelia’s Ward Outpost failed to make efforts to arrest the suspect after the rape allegation was made, and even failed to address the matter in a manner that was required.The teenager was allegedly raped on Friday while washing clothes at a nearby creek. Her mother and brother were murdered several hours later.Garraway claimed that she was banking her beliefs, that the police could have prevented the murders, on what she was told by the dead woman’s eldest daughter who was is now taking care of her siblings who survived Saturday morning’s attack.“Lalita, which is the big sister, told me that when her mother went to make the report, the police told them to come back on Monday,” Garraway said.Enquiries showed that the suspect was at home all day, Friday, but the police made no attempt to arrest him, the woman said.“The same Friday they could’a go and arrest the boy and get he before he committed this act. This is slackness on the part of the police force. Now when the murder done occur, they going and look for him,” Garraway said.“This is a minor who was raped. A police officer should have been there to take her to the hospital for a medical check, while others gone and look for this guy to arrest him. What’s going on? Because we are Amerindians? I can’t understand,” she added angrily.Instead, she said, the police added insult to injury by offering to take the teenager for a medical check hours after her mother and brother were slain.“Is till around one o’clock (pm) (on Saturday) that they carrying she for a medical,” Garraway lamented.The woman said that she learnt about the tragedy on Saturday morning and travelled to the crime scene on Sunday, where she was given a detailed account of what had transpired.She stated, however, that initially she was not told by the police that Adams’ daughter was raped.She only learnt about that aspect of the incident from a Probation and Welfare Officer who was also looking into the matter.“The Probation and Welfare Officer was in the room at the station with we. She turn and say the girl was raped and Molly take her to the police station. That’s the reason why the girl and her son get killed because the man come back with revenge. I was like, ‘Oh my God!’” Garraway said.This newspaper referred her to the Police Office of Professional Responsibility where she gave a detailed statement to officials who have undertaken to carry out a full investigation into the (in)action of the police at the Amelia’s Ward Outpost.Police in Linden captured the 20-year-old suspect, who allegedly murdered his 34-year-old stepsister Molly James and her 15-year-old son at Moblissa on Saturday.The man was captured at around noon on Sunday at his home in the Moblissa backlands near the Demerara River. Ranks had reportedly cordoned off the area to prevent his escape.Kaieteur News understands that the slightly built suspect readily confessed to killing James and her son, and even took police to an area in his yard where he had stashed the murder weapon.He is said to have appeared unperturbed by his capture and was even smiling.Kaieteur News was told that the suspect claimed that he had planned to murder Molly James,Hombre/Mujer Nike Air VaporMax 97 Silver Bullet AJ7291-002, who is his stepsister, after she informed police on Friday that he had sex with her 13-year-old daughter.According to Annie Garraway, Molly Adams was one of nine children, six of whom were left in her care in the North West District, after their mother passed away.She said when Adams was about 16 years old she was brought to the city and handed over to her father who was living there at the time. |
