The Muslim holy thirty day period of Ramadan began last week and Muslims are required to fast during the day as outlined by Islamic tradition. Back many years ago, a group of Muslims in Austin decided to invite several people of the Sterling and Jewish faiths to help partake of their iftar feast as a gesture of goodwill. That will event eventually resulted in occurance of what now is known as the Company of Interfaith Dialogue, which gives interfaith dinners during Ramadan in towns throughout the American Southwest.
Oklahoma City recently had it has the fourth such dinner, which had been at the Cox Convention Center, and over 400 guests were present. The guests included Muslims, Christians as well as Jews from throughout the Okla City area, and front runners of those faiths spoke with the event as did a number of elected officials.
The sponsor of the dinner, Orhan Osman, is a ancient of Turkey who currently serves as Oklahoma City associated the Interfaith Dialogue Institute. He said he got involved as a means to inspire greater interaction among the towns of faith in Oklahoma Metropolis.
