The work of a service club in providing resources to meet the needs of the disadvantaged members of a society is not without challenges. Innovative and feasible ways must be devised.Such was the desire of the Rotary Club of Stabroek, bursting with eagerness to prove its worth as the newest member of the Rotary Family in Guyana.The earnings through the various fund raising events would provide the resources that support initiatives to address the needs of the less fortunate in Guyana.The initial idea was to develop a unique and high quality event which would merge various expressions of the performing arts into an enticing treat that would excite the patrons while making sponsors absolutely proud.Sunday June 15, 2008 will be recorded as the day when the members of the Rotary Club of Stabroek (RCOS) started what was to become an appealing foray into the world of music and the performing arts.The young service club which was only three years old at the time, wrestled with developing innovative ways of earning the requisite funding to support their flagship projects. This desire led to the staging of the first ‘Jazz n Wine’ event at the Georgetown Club which featured Ruth Osman in concert along with a fine collection of local jazz musicians – the GT Jazz Project.A distinctive feature of the event then was the inclusion of ‘spoken words’ and poems as well as dance pieces by some of the nation’s best at strategic points during the program.
