Additionally, the accumulation of silt around the pontoon restricted the amount of water that could be discharged into the Demerara River.”But even in the face of these challenges, King disclosed that the Municipality remains committed to securing the proper drainage of Georgetown. However, the Council is pleading with all citizens to help by desisting from dumping waste materials in the city’s waterways, which not only clog the system and inhibit the flow of water through these channels, but also has the potential for huge public health problems.King disclosed that although the Municipality continually cleans the areas around the market, within a day the accumulation of plastic and other such materials find their way and block inlets, which slows the flow of water.
