As the loans are being repaid, a revolving fund is created where others with vision can apply for a loan, which creates an environment to promote entrepreneurship.The Small Business Development Finance Trust Inc. has given $150M in loans to over 600 persons.The Executive Chairman, in underscoring achievements in 2011, said the company made several changes to its management structure. Together you have provided over 1680 years of service.”HISTORYGafoor’s lucky break came in 1957 when Premier Cheddi Jagan abolished the licensing requirements for the importation of most goods, and Gafoor imported directly from then Socialist bloc countriess, such as Romania, Czechoslovakia, Poland and East Germany.In November 1959, when Sattaur Gafoor left school, he joined his father’s business.The company flourished and was extended to two other locations within the city, at Broad Street and Sussex Street.In 1971, then Prime Minister, Forbes Burnham imposed licencing restrictions, which banned the importation of finished goods without a valid import licence.Coincidently, Gafoors started manufacturing certain items such as corrugated sheets, and this carried the business for a while. But eight years later, the company ran into problems with Burnham, and in 1980, the business shrunk to a meagre operation since it was not granted an import licence, even for the importation of raw materials. With his business virtually closed, he left Guyana’s shores.Gafoor resettled in Barbados and with the aid of his Japanese business counterparts, started a similar business there and soon spread his wings to other small islands such as Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica and St. Lucia.His greatest challenge was leaving behind all that he had work and developed for over 28 years behind. The business however progressed, but his patriotism, coupled with urgings from the new President Cheddi Jagan in 1992, brought Gafoor home, and he soon set up shop at Land of Canaan with a manufacturing complex.The business grew steadily and in January 2002,Cheap Adidas Superstar Shoes, all operations were centralised at the Houston Complex, which now boasts the administrative block and a modern shopping mall.
