Residents of Orealla are moving to disband its Village Council and instate an Interim Management Committee (IMC) in an effort to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial affairs of the existing Council.This is according to a resident, Carl Peneux, who, during Alliance For Change (AFC) press conference at Sidewalk Café yesterday, said that residents were forced to take this decision at a general meeting last Sunday because of inaction by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and the Village Council.Carl Peneux and Lloyd PeneuxPeneux said that this Sunday, residents will approach the Toshao and demand that he resign and if that fails they will take over the Village Council office on Monday. The Committee members will comprise 12 to 15 and residents will select the Chairman.It was noted that all business associates would be informed to immediately stop doing any business transactions with the discarded Toshao and Councillors.Explaining this decision,Cheap Authentic Jerseys, Peneux said that on three occasions residents signed a petition and forwarded it to the Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, for action. In January of this year, Sukhai sent her adviser, Yvonne Pearson, to meet with residents where numerous issues were raised. Pearson was unable to make any decisions and promised that the Minister would act.Several weeks ago, the residents were informed that officials from the Ministry would visit the community to address their concerns. But the officials did not show up.Some of the burning issues affecting residents include the shutdown of electricity system in Siparuta since October 2012 and shutdown of electricity in Orealla for over a month; unacceptable potable water in Orealla; the defunct state of the village boat, tractor, canteen and a missing mobile sawmill, as well as concerns about Presidential Grants.Carl Peneux claimed that residents have been acting in accordance with the Amerindian Act, but the Minister has deviated from same. He said that the Minister was expected to act once more than 51 percent of attendees of the general meeting requested the investigation.According to Lloyd Peneux, who was also at the press conference, the meeting held on Sunday saw the attendance of 110 residents, but only 93 persons signed and registered at the gathering. In addition, 10 residents of Siparuta Village attended.Peneux stressed that residents of Orealla want the relevant authorities to act on their desires. He said that a copy of the petition was sent to Leader of the Opposition, David Granger who promised to raise the matter in the National Assembly.
