Residents of Orealla are moving to disband its Village Council and instate an Interim Management Committee (IMC) in an effort to conduct a thorough investigation into the financial affairs of the existing Council.This is according to a resident, Carl Peneux, who, during Alliance For Change (AFC) press conference at Sidewalk Café yesterday, said that residents were forced to take this decision at a general meeting last Sunday because of inaction by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs and the Village Council.Carl Peneux and Lloyd PeneuxPeneux said that this Sunday, residents will approach the Toshao and demand that he resign and if that fails they will take over the Village Council office on Monday. He said that the Minister was expected to act once more than 51 percent of attendees of the general meeting requested the investigation.According to Lloyd Peneux, who was also at the press conference, the meeting held on Sunday saw the attendance of 110 residents, but only 93 persons signed and registered at the gathering. In addition, 10 residents of Siparuta Village attended.Peneux stressed that residents of Orealla want the relevant authorities to act on their desires. He said that a copy of the petition was sent to Leader of the Opposition, David Granger who promised to raise the matter in the National Assembly. |
