ADELPHI, EAST CANJE – The East Canje Lions Club is constructing a gymnasium for residents of the East Canje area. This is according to the Vice President Devindra Sookraj.Students at the Canefield Nursery School and members of the club.He explained that that the organization is housed at the Adelphi Market in East Canje. A small portion of that building was set aside for the establishment of the gymnasium.It is to be completed within two weeks. Today those two gentlemen are still a part of the organization.Rhyle Sookraj who is now the Membership Director as well, said that that the most outstanding effort of the club was the construction of the Adelphi Community Market.This project was funded by the Social Impact Amelioration Programme in collaboration with the East Canje Lion’s Club.According to him, the organization conducts an annual medical outreach project in the East Canje area including Baracara. This has been done for the past 30 years.In November, the organization is scheduled to visit the schools in the East Canje catchment area to conduct road safety talks, eye tests and lectures would be presented on social ills.
