| Escaping seems to be in the blood of 18-year-old Theon Smith. Smith has escaped from lawfully custody twice, but on each occasion he was quickly recaptured.On Tuesday the teen made another court appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson to answer a charge which stated that on May 15, while being a convicted prisoner on criminal charges, he escaped from lawful custody. Smith, who was unrepresented, pleaded guilty to the charge.He said that he was in the prison yard after hours and it was his intention to escape, but it was the police who placed him on the road.He was remanded to prison and is expected to make another court appearance on June 19, the matter was also transferred.Smith made headlines after police nabbed him in West Ruimveldt hours after being remanded to prison by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson. Investigations had revealed that the prisoner was registered at the Georgetown Prisons, after records showed that he was taken to the facility from the Magistrates’ Court.The police who were acting on information went to West Ruimveldt where the suspect was spotted and arrested.When Smith had appeared in court to answer that charge he said that he simply walked out of the prison.The Director of Prisons had stated at the time of Smith’s escape there was construction work being done at the prison. He had explained that other prisoners had complained about Smith’s smell and the prison officers had separated him from the other inmates.It was only when the officers were ready to book Smith, that it was discovered that he had slipped away from the facility.Smith again made headlines last year October after he was sentenced to 61 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to 15 counts of robbery under arms and escaping from lawful custody. The robberies had happened over a four-month period. Smith had told the magistrate that he was admitting to the charges because he could not fight them.
