… both departed Guyana illegally About 13:30 hrs on Saturday, a Prison Officer attached to the Guyana Prison Service,  Jaundoo, escorted convicted prisoner and fugitive businessman  Paul Doerga, 52,  out of the New Amsterdam prison compound and to the Prison Officers Recreational Hall across the street under the pretext of having him repair a sewing machine.Subsequently,Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping, the officer said that he was told by Doerga that the latter had a document to be signed at Springlands, Corriverton. The officer escorted the prisoner to Springlands where Dorga signed one document.Afterwards, the officer was informed that Doerga had another paper to be signed and that the document was in Suriname. Using the ‘backtrack’ route at Number 78 Village, the two then crossed the Corentyne River. The officer was in uniform. The two ended up in Nickerie where Doerga contacted a taxi. In what appeared to be a bid to escape, Doerga entered the vehicle first and tried to close the door and told the driver to drive. However, the prison officer held on to the door and ended up in the car. A scuffle then ensued. The driver subsequently stopped and related to Suriname police what transpired in his car. The Nickerie police arrested both  the officer and Doerga. Officer Jaundoo then related the story to the police at Nickerie. The Suriname authorities alerted their Guyanese counterparts who then realised that the high-profile prisoner was planning his bid to escape.Kaieteur News understands that Doerga, a Surinamese, cannot be extradited because there is no extradition treaty between the two countries. Both men are in custody in Suriname and the Prison officer is likely to face further prosecution on his return to Guyana.Doerga who had originally come to Guyana to establish a rice mill at Crabwood Creek was charged on June 27, 2001, with accepting money under false pretence. He allegedly began collecting monies for rice and had issued two ‘bounced checks’ to Goomattie Ganesh of  Number 60 Village, Corentyne. He appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court and was granted $300,000 bail. He did not reappear in court after and had allegedly fled the country. He was jailed in his absence on January 8, 2003 by Magistrate Krishendat Persaud. He was then arrested on January 17, 2011 and was jailed for the matter. Subsequently, Attorney-at-Law, Murseline Bacchus filed an appeal in the High Court, but that matter was thrown out by Chancellor Carl Singh and Appeal Court Judges B.S. Roy and Yonnete Cummings- Edwards on the grounds that the appeal was filed out of time and that it was his own negligence.Subsequently Attorneys at Law Bacchus and Kim Kyte John representing Doerga filed a constitutional Motion in the Berbice High Court for an order to quash the conviction. Their contention is that no evidence was presented in the matter to show the accused committed any crime. They are contending that their client did not get a fair trial and his conviction was unconstitutional. That matter was expected to come up for trial on June 24 before Justice Winston Patterson.
