| – Trotman reportedly not keen on rotationWhile the National Executive Committee of the Alliance For Change has voted to have the rotational leadership arrangement remain in place, it is up to the party’s National Conference in October this year to ultimately settle the issue.The party on Saturday last held its executive retreat and subsequently issued a statement,Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping, which said that after healthy deliberations, the NEC reaffirmed its commitment to the principle of Rotation of its top two candidates for the 2011 election bid.The statement said that the meet dealt primarily with the principle of rotation within the Party’s structure, the criteria for the selection of Presidential and Prime Ministerial candidates and the examination of the very difficult issue of race and racial voting patterns, prevalent in Guyanese politics and public life.It stated that in the interest of maintaining ethnic harmony within the party, the NEC also agreed to put in place a standing panel to deal with issues related to ethnic relations, diversity, ethics and compliance for members within the AFC.“The panel will adhere to the founding principles of the Alliance for Change and promote sustainable unification of all Guyanese people.”It stated that regional and international party groups were officially mandated to nominate candidates for the Presidential and Prime Ministerial positions, after which the NEC will make recommendations to its National Conference scheduled for later in the year.This newspaper learnt, however, that the current party leader, Raphael Trotman, was not too keen on leaving in place the principle of rotating and argued against it saying it was impractical.The rotation system of the party was implemented when it came into being, given the racial polarisation of voting in Guyana.Elections will be held at the National Conference where the NEC’s decision will either be ratified or thrown out.At that point, a firm decision will be taken to determine the Presidential and Prime Ministerial Candidates.
