| …Zero tolerance on explosivesCommander of E Division, Fazil Karimbaksh, on Wednesday met with stakeholders and Regional officials at the Mackenzie Police Station, in Linden,Wholesale Jerseys 2018, where he outlined a number of security measures to be put in place by the Guyana police force for the festive season.Emphasizing that there would be zero tolerance on the use of explosives (squibs and other fireworks) during the holiday season, he said that persons caught selling or using the explosives will be prosecuted.With the aid of a Power Point presentation, Baksh highlighted the measures that will be put in place to deter criminal activity, apprehend criminal elements and ensure the roadways are safe.He pointed out that the operation commenced on Monday November 15 and will run until January 15, 2017.Positing that annually there is an increase in social, cultural and economic activities, he lamented that unfortunately, these activities are usually accompanied by a corresponding increase in criminal activities, traffic congestions and accidents.Baksh said that ranks will be deployed for anti-crime beats, marine and “fixed point” patrols.Roadblocks, cordon and searches, intelligence gathering and profiling of known characters will also be done, Baksh said.Ranks will also be monitoring all post offices during the pay out of old age Pensions, he added.Baksh said that several other measures will be in place to minimize the activities of “criminal elements,” and reduce traffic congestion and accidents, thereby providing a safe and secure environment for citizens and visitors.Foot patrols would be deployed in areas that are designated hot spots and there will be traffic patrols at designated points, Baksh added.He explained that the Division will be divided into three ‘sectors”Sector one would include the area between Dora and Kara Kara bridge, sector two, from Kara Kara Bridge to Wismar/Mackenzie toll booth and sector three from Mackenzie/Wismar Bridge to Rockstone.Cinderella City and Phase Two and Phase Three in Amelia’s ward which is in sector one, are considered ‘hot spots’(crime zone), while Moblissa and Bamia are designated traffic “black spots’, which are areas with road defects, where accidents are prone to occur.Karimbaksh is seeking the public’s cooperation during this period, to ensure “a safe and secure, crime and accident free holiday”.Among those in attendance were Regional Chairman Renis Morian; Deputy Director of the community development council Sandra Adams; Chairman of the Linden Chamber of Commerce, Kevin DeYounge; councilor Rawle Friday; and other major stakeholders and police officers. |
