A former employee from the Guyana Water Incorporated was yesterday placed on $450,000 bail after she pleaded not guilty to six counts of conspiracy to defraud the company.Samantha David, 34, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.It was alleged that David,Jerseys From China Online, on April 18, 2006; May 30, 2006; and again on October 4, 2006, conspired with person or persons unknown to forge Guyana Water Incorporated contracts in favour of S. Sparman.It was further alleged that David between April 1 and June 30,2006 with the intent to defraud, conspired with person or persons unknown to obtained $600,000 by forging one Guyana Water Incorporated contract in favour of S. Sparman.Another charge states that between November 1 and December 2006 she conspired with person or persons unknown to obtain $1M by forging one Guyana Water Incorporated contract in favour of S. Sparman.David was jointly charged with Linden Stewart but he was not present in court yesterday and an arrest warrant has since been issued for his arrest.David pleaded not guilty to all six charges and was represented by attorney at law, Winston Murray.According to the lawyer, David who resides at Lot 72 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, is a homemaker who poses no flight risk, if granted her pretrial liberty.Murray further noted that David has no previous criminal matters. He added that all the charges are almost three years old.He said that David had worked with the Guyana Water Incorporated for 16 years and had resigned some three months before these allegations surfaced.The lawyer further told the court that GWI had interviewed David and found that she was in no way involved in any conspiracy. He said that the case, which has been brought against David, is frivolous.David is expected to make another court appearance on June 26. |
