Wanted to be a pilot 78

How about a cool planes thread
The A10 is an awesome view in flight.
I was an air cadet in older times and was in a Jetstream (I think) in RAF Vibram Shoes Melbourne Finningley waiting to take away from, we had to wait on the ending of the taxi way, during right angles next to the conclude of the runway for 2 A10's to help land   amazing.
And, even as it was based at Mildenhall everyone my dad went to watch this SR 71 take off from the small viewing area next to the spiked wire   30foot flames behind as it went almost vertical as soon as it was airborne   fantastic.
Seriously considered a pilot (hence being in the cadets)   now I am an accountant:
Fantastic aircraft posted up, All the stuff of dreams.
Has to be one of the more memorable times in my lifestyle. Took off from my home village, Raydon throughout Suffolk climbed out in formation with other mustangs and then did a display across the Eye show in Suffolk.
And, while it was based from Mildenhall me my dad went to check out the SR 71 take off on the little viewing area near the barbed wire   30foot flames driving as it went almost directory as soon as it was airborne   great.
Wanted to be a pilot (hence being in the cadets)   now I am an accountant:; ):
My dad used to work on Bentwaters Airbase and thats what started our passion for planes. He would acquire access at the air displays so Id get to see your planes very up close and individual and just fell in love with the USAF of the 80s and Nineteen nineties. I loved the A10s and even though everyone would say we were holding ugly I used to look at these in complete awe.
The Vulcan passion started when I saw how big it was then went to the theater fly. OMG it was fucking amazing!! The rumble went straight thru my body and I had been hooked from there on in (hence my love of pull racing and especially fireforce!)
The SR71 can be my big passion tho. I just now think its so spectacular, so other worldly and for that reason ahead of it's time.
My gran is obsessed with Concorde so I suppose it's in my genes to become plane anorak lol and dad encourages it completely and adds inside cars!
I do wonder if the particular Germans had not wasted time developing stuf fthat was no good plus say stole the ideas of what worked (eg T34 tank) if the war would have taken for a longer period
The Germans stuck one or two successful designs for much too long   the 109 was really very long in the tooth by the end, the 110 was useless as a day fighter (even in the BoB) and even the original FW 190 wasn t keeping up with allied designs. Once they did get permission to correctly start to develop new stuff it turned out too late to get it into mass production. But they really ramped in place production as the war started   twice as many Me 109s were inbuilt 1944 as 1943, despite shortages of essential items. Their big problem had been that they d run out of jet pilots to fly the things at that time. Sending untrained kids approximately get shot out of the stars was no solution, so you may possibly reasonably argue that all they could do was look for a speculate weapon. They had a pretty good shot at it too.

I think I am right in nevertheless this picture is of merely one of the modified F104's used by NACA (Forerunner of NASA) at one of many High Speed Flight Stations. These people were flown by the test start corp that flew the Bell X1 and the X15. I think Neil Armstrong was flew a modified 104 to large altitudes before he entered a Astronaut Corp.
Yes thats right. It were built with a large rocket screwed towards back and thrusters on the sinuses and wings to keep control in the thin air. Chuck Yeager appeared to be nearly killed in one if this iced up. This is displayed in "The Right Stuff".
Didn't that they loose something like a 3rd of all the SR 71s to the "Burps"?
The engines appeared getting too much airflow right into a certain part of them that resulted in 100% thrust forward, sending the thing into a spin
