| A police witness testifying in the murder trial of Charles Anthony Woolford, has related that an initial report of a wounding incident between a husband and wife, later turned into a murder investigation, which led to the arraignment of the accused.Murder Accused: Charles Anthony WoolfordDetective Constable, Orwin Dow took the stand yesterday, to provide his portion of evidence in the trial.Woolford is facing his second retrial for the murder of his beautician wife, before Justice Brassington Reynolds and a 12-member mixed jury at the High Court in Georgetown. His previous two trials ended in hung jury verdicts.The accused is currently being represented by Attorney–at–Law, Peter Hugh. Prosecutors Mercedes Thompson and Michael Shahoud are presenting the State’s case.Woolford is said to have fatally stabbed his wife on February 8, 2009 at her Lot 2041, Hummingbird Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt home,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, allegedly during a heated argument.The hairdresser, and mother of three, is said to have had her stomach sliced open during the ordeal. She succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) while receiving treatment.The accused, who was a self-employed construction worker at the time, tried to end his life by ingesting what was believed to be a poisonous liquid, a few hours after learning of his wife’s demise. He was hospitalized but was later released to face the murder charge.Yesterday, Detective Dow related that in February 2009 he was at the East La Penitence Police Station, when he received information about a wounding incident alleged to have occurred at Hummingbird Street, North Ruimveldt. He said the information was that Latoya Woolford had been wounded by her husband CharlesMurdered: Latoya Conway WoolfordAnthony Woolford.He said that as a result he visited the premises where he spoke to a few persons who would have had knowledge about what had occurred. The officer also recalled taking statements from persons at the scene.Dow said that a few days later he received information that Latoya Woolford had passed away while receiving treatment at the GPHC. He said that he was then instructed to institute a murder charge against Charles Woolford and thereafter an investigation was launched.Talia Rayside, a cousin of the murdered beautician, also related her portion of evidence to the court yesterday.Rayside said that she was living at the top flat of the two-storey house, while her cousin resided with her family, downstairs. She recalled hearing frantic screams coming from downstairs, on the day the incident took place. The witness said that she later learnt that her cousin Latoya had been injured during an altercation with her husband.On Monday, the victim’s teenage daughter commenced her evidence by relating to the court that on February 8, 2009 her stepfather, Charles Anthony Woolford, plunged a knife into her mother’s stomach.Marciana Conway is said to have witnessed the stabbing, when she was just 11 years old. Conway, now 17 years old, of Queens, New York, is providing her evidence to the court via audio-visual link (Skype).The teenager is scheduled to continue her evidence today. |
