| A man who allegedly indecently assaulted his 20-year-old neighbour in her bathroom has been remanded.Keith Springer, 54,Supply NHL Gear Store, pleaded not guilty to a charge which stated that he indecently assaulted his neighbour on March 20.His lawyer Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos told the court that Springer was a former member of the Guyana Defence Force.De Santos explained that on the night of the alleged assault, the victim raised no alarm. The lawyer stated that one day after the incident the victim’s father made a report to the police station.The lawyer further argued that people who live close to where the act allegedly happened were baffled because no one heard anything, and it was only after the police went to arrest Springer that persons became aware that something had happened the night before.De Santos added that the offence is a bailable one and asked for bail in a reasonable sum.The victim who was present in court said that she was in her bathroom which is situated downstairs when Springer came inside and started touching her inappropriately.Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford opposed bail on the grounds that Springer might interfere with the victim.Bail was denied and the accused is expected to make another court appearance on March 29. |
