Social Cohesion Minister,A.J. Klein Jersey, Amna Ally,Alex Ovechkin Jersey, yesterday criticised PPP General Secretary, Clement Rohee, for asking the Guyana Elections Commission to disclose the ethnicity of its employees. In a statement issued to the media yesterday, Ally dismissed what she says is an “irresponsible and divisive” query made by Rohee.“It is a sad commentary that the PPP has chosen to once again divide this nation on the basis of ethnicity,” she said. “The sooner politicians realise that we are all Guyanese and resist attempts to divide Guyana along ethnic lines,Cheap Authentic Jerseys, the sooner Guyana will be taken to a higher level in fostering social cohesion.”Two weeks ago, Rohee suggested that there was a racial imbalance at GECOM. Rohee had also enquired whether GECOM had blacklisted anyone who would have performed questionably while working with the Secretariat in past elections.Chairman of GECOM, Dr. Steve Surujbally, in a press conference on Thursday, expressed outrage at Rohee’s query. He stated that in the meeting between a PPP delegation— which was led by Rohee— and GECOM,Alejandro Villanueva Jersey, Rohee insisted to know the ethnic ratio of some 12,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys,000 persons who were employed by the Secretariat for the 2015 Elections.Surujbally implored that there was no ethnic imbalance relative to persons employed by GECOM and that GECOM advertises positions,Axel Andersson Jersey, “treats with the applications received, train personnel and employ based on marks gained at the evaluations,” he said, insisting that ethnicity is not a factor that influences employment by GECOM.“We have a procedure, we have a process. We do not employ Afro-Guyanese! We do not employ Indo-Guyanese— we employ Guyanese!” he said.Minister Ally stated that it was regrettable that the PPP’s General Secretary resorted to the “politics of division” in his examination of the employment practices at GECOM. She said the labour laws are clear that there must be no discrimination in hiring based on race, gender or religious belief.“We are confident that GECOM has followed and continue to follow the law of the land. It is therefore ridiculous for Mr. Rohee to trump-up this question of ethnicity which has the potential of further dividing us as a nation,” she stated.“Let me take this opportunity to inform the General Secretary of the PPP that this government believes in equal opportunity for all. We believe that employment opportunities must be given to those who satisfy the requirements for the positions for which they apply. We want opportunities for all Guyanese. We expect that those who are qualified for positions are going to be the earners of opportunities,” she added,Corey Brewer Jersey, imploring Rohee and the PPP to cease their efforts to divide the Guyanese community with the “ploy” of ethnic bias.“I call on you (Mr. Rohee), not to instigate racial prejudice, but instead let us work together to make Guyana a better place,” she said.
